At Mississippi State University, I founded and lead the Integrative Intelligence, Design, Environment, and Advanced Systems (IIDEAS) Lab, where our research explores how to shape more resilient, sustainable, and circular cities and buildings. Our work is grounded in the belief that research should create meaningful, real-world impact for both people and the planet by advancing a more regenerative and balanced relationship among humans, the built environment, and natural systems.

We are currently advancing three major projects.

The first project focuses on the circular economy in architecture, construction, and disaster management. In this work, we examine how to transform today鈥檚 largely linear, resource-intensive, and environmentally high-impact building and recovery processes into a more circular model; one that prioritizes the adaptive reuse, repurposing, and recycling of buildings, materials, and disaster debris. We are also developing AI-driven frameworks and rapidly deployable digital twins to enhance data-driven decision-making and support more sustainable, affordable, and resilient approaches to design, construction, and post-disaster recovery.

The second project focuses on energy and environmental resilience in buildings and communities. This research investigates how the built environment can better withstand, adapt to, and recover from extreme climate conditions, with the goal of improving long-term performance, resilience, and sustainability.

The third project centers on education and workforce development. We are rethinking architecture and construction curricula by bringing an entrepreneurial mindset, industry experience, and emerging technologies into the classroom. By leveraging advanced tools such as AI agents and virtual reality, we aim to create more immersive, hands-on learning environments that better prepare students to address real-world challenges.

Together, these projects reflect the IIDEAS Lab鈥檚 broader commitment to advancing innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical solutions for a more sustainable and resilient future.
